In Wisconsin, brats are a food group! We are always looking for new ways to cook them. This recipe is easy and a hit at any tailgate party or cookout, any time of year.

Ingredients

  • 10 uncooked bratwurst links
  • 1 bottle (12 ounces) beer or 1-1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup honey barbecue sauce
  • 10 hot dog buns, split
  • Spicy brown mustard

Instructions:

  1. Grill the bratwursts on a greased rack over medium heat or broil them 4 inches from the heat for 10 minutes, turning frequently. Transfer the grilled bratwursts to a 5-qt. slow cooker.
  2. In a large bowl, combine beer, ketchup, and barbecue sauce; pour the mixture over the bratwursts. Cook, covered, on low until fully cooked, approximately 3-4 hours.
  3. Place the cooked bratwursts in buns and serve with mustard. Optionally, use the cooking liquid as a flavorful addition.
