After its 21st season in 2022–2023, Dr. Phil’s daytime talk show will cease airing. Dr. Phil McGraw, who had signed a five-year contract with CBS Media Ventures in 2018, will step away from the show.

For the upcoming 2023–2024 season, syndication networks may opt to broadcast previously recorded episodes.

Reflecting on his tenure, McGraw expressed gratitude for his over 25 years in daytime television, during which the show tackled a myriad of issues impacting millions of viewers. Despite his departure from daytime television, McGraw remains committed to pursuing impactful projects.

CBS Media Ventures revealed that McGraw is planning a “strategic primetime arrangement” to expand his influence on television. The project is slated to debut next year.

McGraw has been involved in producing scripted content and hosting podcasts, including Mystery & Murder: Analysis by Dr. Phil and Phil in the Blanks.

Since his rise to fame as a guest expert on The Oprah Winfrey Show in the 1990s, McGraw has hosted more than 4,000 episodes, featuring over 20,000 guests and receiving over 5 million viewer letters.

Although Dr. Phil ranks as the second-most-watched talk show, drawing an average of 2 million viewers per episode, Live with Kelly and Ryan currently holds the top spot according to Variety.

CBS Media Ventures President Steve LoCascio expressed appreciation for McGraw’s contributions and announced ongoing collaborations beyond the show’s conclusion. Despite Dr. Phil’s departure after 21 years, CBS intends to preserve and utilize the show’s library for future projects.

The conclusion of Dr. Phil coincides with the end of other daytime talk shows such as The Wendy Williams Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Dr. Oz, and The Real.
