A royal commentator has recently issued a cautionary note to Meghan Markle, suggesting that her standing with the American public might be shifting as loyalty to Queen Elizabeth remains steadfast.
According to royal expert Daniela Elser, the initial excitement surrounding Meghan and Prince Harry’s relocation to the United States has dwindled over the past year, notably due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Elser remarks that when the couple first arrived in Los Angeles in March last year, they were seen as a highly marketable and rare commodity, with their brand rapidly ascending. However, the onset of the pandemic stalled much of the momentum surrounding their move, and now, as life in the US begins to return to normal with the reopening, the novelty of having a Duke and Duchess in Tinseltown isn’t quite what it used to be.
Elser also points out that Meghan and Harry’s controversial interviews, where they have openly criticized the royal family, have not been well-received by many Americans who maintain loyalty to the Queen.
Another royal expert, Jonathan Sacerdoti, accuses Meghan and Harry of strategically leveraging media attention to their advantage. He suggests that both the couple and the royal family manipulate media coverage to shape public perception in their favor.
While the recent birth of Harry and Meghan’s daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana, has somewhat bridged the gap within the royal family, there remains considerable distance between them. Sacerdoti notes that the Queen has yet to meet her newest granddaughter, and the likelihood of that happening anytime soon appears slim, considering her limited interaction with Archie, their first child, in recent times.
